Introduction

In India’s ever-evolving SUV market, timing can mean everything. And once again, Maruti Suzuki has struck the iron when it’s hot. Just ahead of the festive season, the country’s largest automaker has launched its all-new Maruti Suzuki Victoris, a compact SUV designed to redefine the brand’s image and appeal to a new generation of urban and adventure-loving customers.

The Victoris arrives as Maruti’s second major contender in the compact SUV space after the Grand Vitara. Built on the same platform, it brings a sharper design, enhanced technology, multiple drivetrain choices (including hybrid and CNG), and for the first time — ADAS safety features — all at an introductory price starting from ₹10.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

But is it really the “perfectly timed” SUV India has been waiting for? Let’s find out in this detailed review.

Design and Exterior Styling

The Victoris immediately catches the eye with its balanced proportions and elegant crossover stance. While its dimensions (4360 mm length, 2600 mm wheelbase) are close to rivals like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, its design language sets it apart.

The sleek roofline, extended overhangs, and bold front fascia lend it a premium European feel — something we haven’t seen much from Maruti before. The LED projector headlamps with integrated DRLs flow smoothly into the grille, while silver skid plates and 17-inch aero-cut alloy wheels add a touch of sportiness.

At the rear, the connected LED tail-lamps provide a striking visual identity, though the styling might divide opinions. The brand has made a conscious effort to move away from conservative design language, and the result is an SUV that stands confidently distinct from its Grand Vitara sibling.

Interior and Cabin Experience

Step inside the Victoris, and it greets you with a premium cabin that feels a cut above most Maruti offerings to date. Soft-touch materials, leatherette upholstery, and brushed metallic accents enhance the overall luxury quotient.

The 10.25-inch SmartPlay infotainment system is the centerpiece of the dashboard, supporting wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Alexa compatibility. The Harman Infinity sound system with Dolby Atmos 5.1 surround audio genuinely elevates the in-cabin experience — you can feel the difference in clarity and depth of sound.

The ventilated front seats, wireless charger, 64-color ambient lighting, and panoramic sunroof make this cabin a welcoming place to spend time in. The electric driver’s seat adds convenience, and physical buttons for climate control and media functions ensure that functionality is never compromised by design minimalism.

Second Row Comfort and Space

The second-row seating is spacious and thoughtfully designed, offering excellent under-thigh support and knee room. However, the sloping roofline slightly limits headroom for taller passengers.

Each seat gets three-point seat belts, adjustable headrests, and seat belt reminders, supported by smart load sensors that ensure passenger safety without unnecessary alerts. There are rear AC vents, dual 45W Type-C charging ports, and clever storage spaces that make the Victoris practical for family use.

Boot capacity stands at a useful 437 litres, identical across the mild hybrid, strong hybrid, and CNG variants. The reason? Maruti Suzuki has cleverly relocated the CNG tank under the body, freeing up cabin and luggage space. An electric tailgate with gesture control, a first for Maruti, makes loading easier.

Technology and Infotainment

The new-generation SmartPlay infotainment system in the Victoris is easily Maruti’s best to date. It’s fast, fluid, and visually crisp. The 10.25-inch touchscreen and digital instrument cluster work in perfect sync, providing vital driving information like hybrid power flow, fuel efficiency, and ADAS alerts.

Key highlights include:

  • 10.25-inch infotainment system (7-inch on base variants)
  • Wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay
  • Alexa voice control
  • 64-color ambient lighting
  • Wireless charging pad
  • Head-Up Display (HUD)
  • Infinity Harman Dolby Atmos system
  • 360° multi-angle camera

Together, these features make the Victoris one of the most connected and tech-laden SUVs in its segment.

Engine, Performance, and Transmission

Under the hood, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris shares its powertrain lineup with the Grand Vitara, giving customers a broad choice based on driving preference and efficiency priorities.

1.5L Mild Hybrid Petrol

  • Power: 102 bhp
  • Torque: 139 Nm
  • Transmission: 5-speed MT / 6-speed AT
  • Mileage: 19–21 km/l (claimed)

Smooth, linear, and refined — this engine remains one of Maruti’s most reliable powerplants. The torque converter automatic delivers a relaxed driving experience ideal for urban conditions, while paddle shifters give added control on highways.

1.5L Strong Hybrid Petrol

  • Power: Combined output of 115 bhp
  • Transmission: e-CVT
  • Mileage: 28.65 km/l (Maruti’s most fuel-efficient SUV ever)

This setup blends electric efficiency with petrol performance. It can run purely on electric power at low speeds, making it an excellent city commuter with impressively low running costs.

1.5L CNG

  • Power: 88 bhp
  • Torque: 121.5 Nm
  • Transmission: 5-speed MT
  • Mileage: 26.6 km/kg

Ideal for budget-conscious buyers, the CNG variant maintains practicality without compromising boot space, thanks to its innovative underbody cylinder placement.

AllGrip AWD (Mild Hybrid)

  • Power: 102 bhp
  • Transmission: 6-speed AT
  • Ground Clearance: 210 mm
  • Drive Modes: Auto / Snow / Sport / Lock

The AWD version adds adventure-readiness to the Victoris, offering better control and traction for rough terrains, hill regions, or wet conditions.

Ride and Handling

One of the biggest strengths of the Victoris is its ride quality. The suspension setup feels mature, absorbing road imperfections effortlessly. It’s neither too soft nor too firm — a fine balance that makes it perfect for Indian roads.

High-speed stability is impressive, and the SUV feels planted even around corners. The steering feedback is sharp and confidence-inspiring, especially in the AllGrip variant.

While the 215/60 R17 tyres offer adequate grip, slightly wider tyres would’ve enhanced cornering stability further. Still, for a car focused on comfort and efficiency, it’s a very well-rounded setup.

Off-Road Capability

Though not a hardcore off-roader like the Jimny, the Victoris AWD variant is capable enough for mild trails and rough terrains. The 210 mm ground clearance and AllGrip system ensure you can confidently tackle muddy paths, gravel, or moderate inclines without worrying about getting stuck.

The long overhangs, however, require a bit of caution during steep approach or departure angles. That said, it remains one of the few compact SUVs offering genuine AWD capability — a big plus for enthusiasts who love weekend escapes.

Fuel Efficiency: Real-World Mileage

Maruti Suzuki’s strength has always been efficiency, and the Victoris continues that legacy.

VariantTransmissionClaimed Mileage
Mild Hybrid 2WD MT5-speed Manual21.0 km/l
Mild Hybrid 2WD AT6-speed Auto20.5 km/l
Strong Hybride-CVT28.65 km/l
CNG5-speed Manual26.6 km/kg
AWD (Mild Hybrid)6-speed Auto19.0 km/l

Real-world tests show the Victoris delivers 17–19 km/l (Petrol) and 26+ km/kg (CNG), depending on traffic and driving style — figures that place it among the most fuel-efficient compact SUVs in India.

Safety and ADAS Features

Safety has taken center stage in the Victoris — and rightly so. This is the first Maruti Suzuki vehicle to feature ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), which include:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Lane Keep Assist
  • Autonomous Emergency Braking
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • High Beam Assist

Complementing these are 6 airbags (standard across all variants), 4-disc brakes, TPMS, Hill Hold and Descent Control, and a 360° camera offering 11 different viewing angles — possibly the best in its segment.

Most importantly, the Victoris has earned a 5-star safety rating from both Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP, establishing it as one of the safest Maruti cars ever built.

Driving Impressions

Driving the Victoris AllGrip ZXi+(O) is an experience that combines refinement, comfort, and practicality. The 1.5L petrol engine performs smoothly with well-timed shifts. Power delivery is linear — not thrilling, but consistent. The SUV handles city congestion with ease and feels comfortable cruising on open highways.

At high speeds, engine noise does creep into the cabin slightly, but not enough to spoil the overall experience. The suspension tuning and insulation quality show just how much Maruti Suzuki has matured in understanding modern SUV buyers.

Verdict: The Victoris Advantage

So, does the Maruti Suzuki Victoris make sense in a segment already filled with heavyweights like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, and even its own sibling, the Grand Vitara? Absolutely — and here’s why:

Modern, premium design that stands out
Multiple drivetrain options – Petrol, Hybrid, CNG, AWD
Class-leading mileage (up to 28.65 km/l)
Feature-loaded cabin with Dolby Atmos, 10.25-inch display, 360° camera
ADAS and 5-star safety rating
Arena dealership reach, ensuring widespread availability and service

By offering everything from fuel efficiency to futuristic safety tech, the Victoris bridges the gap between affordability and aspiration.
