It is a step that ties The King of Rock and’ Roll to the King of Vampires. U.S. businessman Joel Weinshanker and his Ad Populum company have purchased an overwhelming stake in the operations of the castle. This is a huge change in the way one of Europe’s most renowned heritage sites is shared with the rest of the world.Ad Populum, known for overseeing iconic brands such as Graceland as well as the amusing Chia Pet, now holds an 80 per cent stake in the firm that runs the day-to-day operations of the castle. The magnificent castle’s stone walls and towers are still the property belonging to the Habsburg family, who are the descendants of Princess Ileana and the heart of the operation of the castle is under American direction. The aim is clear: the goal is to make Bran Castle a top international tourist attraction, and draw greater numbers of visitors across the United States and Western Europe towards the centre of Transylvania.
A legacy beyond the vampire mythAlthough the public is familiar with Bran Castle from the perspective of Bram Stoker’s epic novel, the real story of the castle is a vast web of royal residences and military defence. Stoker himself did not set foot in Romania and relied instead upon vivid descriptions and images from British libraries. The castle’s sharp silhouette was perfectly in line with the eerie atmosphere in his book.
This fusion of fiction and real life has made this castle into a thriving hub of darkness tourism.The attraction of these sites can be more than the result of a trend that is only temporary. The fascination of humans with the macabre usually stems from the need to connect with history in a manner which is both tangible and absorbing. Bran Castle has mastered this balance and offers visitors a peek at the brutal rule that was Vlad the Impaler, as well as exquisite rooms once used by Queen Marie in Romania.The new administration will oversee the castle. The castle could undergo a refresh of the experience for visitors. The reports indicate that Ad Populum has already begun an extensive recruitment campaign. They’re looking for new people to take on everything from immersive tours to events to managing the logistics of ticket selling and maintenance. This isn’t an easy task, given that the castle hosted more than a million guests in 2024.

The U.S. arbitration court recently resolved a case involving the former management company, concluding a complete operation transfer to Princess Ileana’s descendants. Legal clarity in this case has cleared the possibility for Weinshanker to take over.The modern-day visitor can expect a harmonious blend of the historic and the mythical. It is possible to walk along the small, winding stairs that Vlad the Impaler may have traversed, and visit the beautifully decorated and art-filled rooms that Queen Marie found solace. This duality, the bloodthirsty tale of Dracula, as well as the peaceful reality of Romanian royals, makes Bran Castle an iconic place in the imagination of everyone.
