The discussion started after a New York Times article by Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan reported that Trump was unhappy with criticism surrounding the handling of the past files controversy. The report said Trump allegedly called Charlie Kirk after a Turning Point USA event where speakers criticized Attorney General Pam Bondi’s response to the issue. Owens then linked that report to her own timeline of events surrounding Kirk’s death, leading to a wave of reactions online. While many users backed Owens, others strongly disagreed with her comments. As of now, neither Donald Trump nor Erika Kirk has publicly responded to Owens’ latest remarks. Charlie Kirk was assassinated on September 10, 2025, during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

However, Owens did not directly accuse Trump of killing Charlie Kirk. Instead, she referenced her own theory and timeline while discussing the reported call. Laura Loomer disagreed with Owens and accused her of constantly changing her claims.
